Allyson Tufts is a new author that has had many meaningful careers to date. For many years, she followed her passion to work in non-profit. She worked as a Campaign Manager for United Way of Quinte and then went on to work as a Palliative Care Coordinator at Hospice Quinte. She facilitated several grief support groups for children and adults who were struggling with the loss of a loved one. She currently works part time as an HR/Training Coordinator at GH Manufacturing. She has also returned to her love of grief support. She has partnered with Canadian Mental Health to co-facilitate grief groups for families that have suffered a loss as a result of a suicide. She is trained in both Safetalk and Assist and is an active member of the local Suicide Prevention Coalition.
Throughout her career, her proudest accomplishment has been that of being a wife and mother to her husband and two children. It was raising her children and watching her son play hockey that brought her back to her childhood love of writing. Spending so much time in the rink was a source of joy and extreme stress. Nothing could prepare her for the stress of standing behind her son’s net for his debut as a goalie. The only thing that seemed to relax her was writing about her experiences. As her stories started to pile up, she realized that not only were they funny, most importantly, they could be helpful to other parents going through the same experiences. She decided to take the leap and put her stories into her first book and so was born, “Lessons from Behind the Glass”.
Allyson is here today to tell you about her crazy journey to becoming an author and the challenges of following her passion.
As the holiday’s approach, we ask that you please bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Belleville Firefighter’s Toy Drive. This organization believes every child deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning. Belleville Professional Firefighters Toy Drive began in the 1950’s and since has provided over 200,000 local children with new toys on Christmas morning. Their mission this year is to make Christmas special for over 1,300 children in the Belleville area with the help of generous individuals and corporate supporters.
